Render Nodes and render farms
Render farms are made up of multiple computers, all clustered, designed, and organised for the function of rendering. Each of the individual computers are called render nodes. Each render node performs a type of parallel computing; it is called this because each node is capable of receiving a unique task that it can perform individually without the assistance of another node. This means that each node can perform a different task, all at the same time (in parallel).
Render Nodes - What they do
A render node can calculate and complete almost any job it is ‘assigned’ to. Each render node is assigned its job by a main computer, which uses software known as Render Management Software, or sometimes a Queue Manager. The jobs given to each of the render nodes is graphic based, and can be anything from a full image, a layer of an image, or a sequence of images. Once each of the render nodes completes its task, it is immediately provided with another by the main computer. The queue manager has to be capable to providing each of the render nodes a task, basted on its efficiency and speed, as some may be slower than others. This must also be carried out without human assistance.
